Im sure an L42A1 book will follow at some point, hopefully!
Paul, The London Proof House mark appears just above the "ENGLAND". The same is mark probably on the top of the bolt handle too, and generally the barrels were marked at the muzzle end around the...
All L39A1's had the standard No4 butt fitted when built and issued to whatever unit! The butt fitted to the lower rifle (509) is a No8/Envoy/7.62 conv. butt fitted later in its life!
The Cadet...
Minimum of 6, Maximum of 8.
The No32 bracket drawing was the 1970 version, amended 7 times from original.

Also the wartime trials no53 mount drawing dated 1944 has the same pad placement.

The Mount and pads drawing does provide the location dimensions of the pad centre line.
Front face of action to centre of front pad is 1.5inches, then front pad to rear pad centre line is...

Fultons of Bisley have loads of them, all made by Colin Moon! One of the original contractors appointed by Enfield!
Hi Brian, Still working on the numbers but from what can be worked out there's a good percentage surviving out there somewhere!!
The sold out of service mark was probably applied to the rifle at Enfield. Unlike the military L39A1, These 7.62mm Conv. marked rifles were a private purchase by the Army Rifle Association from the...
I think Fultons used an already converted action, as they have a good many of them! Then built the rifle from mainly new parts or existing factory original parts including the barrel!

Can just make out the markings on this one!
Roughly 16 but maybe up to 20, spread out over the entire 10 year conversion program!
Does anybody here own L42A1 with the serial number H37849? Please PM me if you do!
Can anybody shed any light on this combination? How many were fitted or dates when they were either trialled or used?[70409
42-L-7507 and 45-L-1459 were both converted to L42A1 spec. by Enfield sometime after 1970.
There are a few 72 dated L42's around, not many though! 34288 is recorded on the lists but as a "G" prefix, E and G always get mixed up.
Also seen RA/019.M. Exactly the same but electro engraved the same as the Fazakerley factory engraving.
Give it another 15 years and they might just re-issue the L96 again! 😬
Or documented proof of SAS use come to that!

Both styles of bracket, Top is "SAS" bottom is "Marine"
Slightly different shapes plus "SAS" type uses cap head craddle screws and the "Marine" type uses the old tappered craddle...
Its not the Royal Marine type Chosenman! There a different shape behind the rear ring. The thumbwheels and Allen bolts are interchangeable so depending on what style you prefer, you fit! One dealer...
Never had a problem with eye relief on mine Peter! Been shooting it for years with the S&B fitted!
