Would the two stars imply throat erosion?
Here are some photos of the barrel in question - thoughts?

So,to be clear, are the small star marks indicative of rust, pitting or other problems, or simply inspection marks confirming that that barrel was reviewed? The barrel in question is SMLE heavy...
Is there a reference available detailing armourer inspection marks? If a barrel has two star stamps in front of the knocks form, is that evidence of an issue?
My suspicion is that with the deep interest in this project and the involvement of people like Brian and Peter, I'm very confident that Criterion will get this "right".
I also understand that the...
I might have something ... shoot me a quick email.
My guess is that the rifle was initially made as a sporter by BSA, later clumsily re-barreled with an SMLE barrel. There are no acceptance marks, nor a crown stamp on the receiver. I suspect that...
I've had this BSA sporter (very similar to No.3 pattern) rebarreled with a new SMLE barrel, and am in the process restocking it. While I haven't decided with sights to use - either a set of NECG...
I did forward information over to Century about a year ago, but never heard what, if anything, happened.
I was able to visit Criterion Barrels on the way home from work today ... and had the fortune to take a look at the new No.4 Enfield barrel prototypes ... they're looking good!

Bruce, do you have, or can suggest a source for the correct tenon measurements? I'm trying to sort through rebarreling a couple of Lee Speed rifles with new barrels. Criterion will end up putting...
I had an opportunity to stop at Criterion's shop this afternoon, and the comments above are accurate. The goal is to have barrels available by the end of the year, with No.1 barrels being put into...
Can a No.4 barrel be safely installed on a No.1 action, assuming correct indexing and chambering? I recall that the thread pitch is the same, but the thread angle is different.
Looking for a complete charger bridge for an SMLE.
Thanks,
Kerry
I've contacted the Portage County Historical Society (Wisconsin) they don't have anything going back that far.
I've also dropped off an SMLE barrel as well for them to measure and consider. Their shop is about 15 minutes away from me, so it's easy to drop over.
Bruce, any chance of sharing some photos of the barrels you're measuring? I'm trying to visualize the differences, but am having "issues" LOL
Well ... email sent to Omega. For $50, it's worth pursuing.
Per what I've seen in copies of the BSA catalogues, sporters were offered with the standard barrel length - 24 1/2 inches. You could add additional length (up to 30") as a custom option, without...
I understand that the standard Lee Metford barrel contour was heavier than the No.1 Mk.III barrel - however, was it the same or very similar to the No.4 Enfield contour? The reason for asking...
From Beaton Firearms in Australia - Facebook does have it's uses!:D
"They both like a little up pressure, but it's more important to regulate on the No.4. When they have full wood and bands you...
While I understand that the SMLE tends to shoot better with up pressure at the muzzle, I am curious as to what works for a sporter?
I've a sporter SMLE that I'm restocking with older Fajen wood,...
Thanks, a No.4 buttstock will fit a No.1 nicely, but I'm curious whether it was a shop practice.
Were No.4 buttstocks fitted to No.1 rifles when necessary?
