IMO the straight ears are fake or a bad repro. I don't think SA made that sight with straight ears.

    Loose guard

I used to open mine just enough to take the pressure off the wood and insert a toothpick through the hole in the safety to hold the housing in and the gun together. Worked great.

    G&h

Collectors always wondered about that... you mean Springfield couldn't drill 5 holes in a receiver to mount a bracket? Instead they had to send them to New York so G&H could do it and then send them...

John Garand's M1E8 design was WAY better than the M1E7 with G&H custom fit mount, but the E7 was chosen and adopted as the M1C. Seven years later in 1951 Ordnance abandoned it and gave SA an...

The GCA Journal recently ran a 3-part feature article on Dale Dye, including his role as military advisor on Band of Brothers and his actual part in the series. Quite a guy.

    Glass

SA used the glass bedding compound they developed for the NM program to tighten loose lockup in rebuilds of the Sixties. When these were first seen, some collectors labeled them NM Type 1 1/2,...

    Easy way

Hold the rifle to your shoulder with one hand, reach straight back behind your head with your shooting hand, swing it up and over your head to the trigger. This will lock the bones in place and make...

C'mon, guys, this is well known history... when the gas port system was introduced, the decision was made to continue to produce the "spline type" until all the parts were used up. The rationale was...

    Spray

Unfortunately, Ordnance bought into the Russian method: spray and pray by poorly trained troops. Enough bullets eventually work. They beat the Germans by sheer numbers... whenever the odds were 3:1...
