Is that what is giving this stock its shine then? I'd like to use something to clean off the topcoat and then reapply BLO or one of the others you listed above.

I have the above rifle broken down to clean and was wondering what to use to remove an old finish. It is worn in spots, and is a glossy / semi glossy type finish. Should I try Denatured Alcohol first...
Once I purchase this rifle and get it in my hands I shall post pics. Thanks to all for comments and opinions on my rare find.
I can try to send some pics of the gun to some of you if you leave me your email. From there you can either confirm my thoughts or not.
From the pics I have been sent under the rear sight has the serial number, and right in front of the receiver serial number E 12xx, is the exact same serial number. I assume the E stands for Enfield...
How rare is a 1st Model Eickhorn Luftwaffe Dagger with scabbard, and chain? A buddy of mine has his wife's grandfathers, which he apparently took off of a soldier sometime in the war. Any info on...
It says Enfield under the crown on I believe the right hand side of the buttsocket when sighting the rifle. Does not say RSAF Enfield, just Enfield. Then 1916 under that, and ShTLE III* below that....
I found the rifle above from a private seller. The rarity part is, at least to me, is that all numbers match. Bolt, Magazine, Receiver, Barrel, and nosecap. He said he bought it 15 yrs ago, and never...
Anyone have a spare nut for this bolt?
Those sound like good pic ideas. I hope this somehow helps people like me, especially when looking at possible new aquisitions.
I will attempt to take pics of my bore of a 49 4/2 when I get off work in the morning. To me it looks great, but here again I'm no expert, and the reason for wanting good pics from various people....
Was wondering if some of the more seasoned collectors can help out us noobs? I know it seems obvious, but can we get a pictorial of barrel riflings to see what pitting, copper fouled, worn out, and...
Thanks all for the info.
It is commercially loaded 303 British ammo from Prvi, and others like Federal ammo
Was wondering what was the standard bullet weight issued back in 1940? Buying ammo and wanna get close to original ammo. Not surplus, but some off the shelf stuff.
I was wondering, does anyone know what bullet weight a 49 No4 Mk2 would have been issued? Looking to buy some commercial ammo and all I see is 150grn SP or 180grn FMJ. Any help is appreciated.
I dont know. I have not been able to work out a deal with the guy yet.
Well I got a chance to have another look tonight, and I am missing that nut. I just pushed the bolt out and removed it. Once I pulled the forestock off, I was surprised to see no rust, and old...
Any thoughts from more experienced collectors?
Hopefully these pics will post up.
Ok great. Any Particular dates of manufacture? Serial prefixes and suffixes?
Were there any No1 MkIII made in Ishapore? Looking at another gun, and just need some general info. I'll get numbers and such on here as soon as I see pics of it.
I'd say, just from my little bit of acquiring knowledge, it was worth $200 bucks. But like many have said, and I'm beginning to believe, what is it worth to you? Good find!!
I love my 49 Faz, but want a few more Enfields. Have not shot it yet, as I'm still cleaning old cosmo out of the bolt, and around the sights. Barrel was very dirty when I got it. Ran out of patches....
Ok thats what I was thinking, but wasn't sure.
