I found this oiler stuck in the butt of a Long Lee - it contains a very thick oil /grease that smells slightly 'antiseptic' and whilst probably not original it would be nice to think that it is.

For some reason I do not have an 'edit' option - I was going to add the following :
About - Collector's Source, Military Collectibles Online
This was the Canadian importer who did an excellent,...
Importing from the UK can be done.
I have sold (and shipped) a rifle to Canada.
You need to find an Importer with the necessary paperwork / licence, and the seller needs to find a carrier with...
You could always call it a "Peter Laidler Special"
Here is an excerpt fromone of Peters post 26th July 2008
"......I think I mentioned earlier that when we were doing the big Crown Agents FTR...
Got on well with both 'Winchester Super X' subsonic and CCI 'Stingers'
Totaly different trajectories but when sighted in both work.
Great fun on the range when have been shooting the No1 Mk3* and...
No but thinned down a bit - the No2 Mk4* has gone and both Enforcers have gone over the pond
Left with
No1 Mk3*
No4 Mk1*
No4T
No5 Mk1
No7 MK1 (BSA)
No4 Mk1/3 in 410 'shotgun'
As a collector (and occasional shooter) I tend to look for the unusual, the rarer models and even the downright 'oddities', but due to the ever increasing costs of such Enfields, the UK laws that...
My take on it is that it is a 1944 manufactured Maltby (ROF Maltby in Yorkshire) which was then FTR'd by Fazakerly (F) near Liverpool in 1949. It has at some time (possibly during civilian ownership)...
This is one of the ones you have seen - the previous owner told me he used to shoot at the same range / club as you and that you had given it the 'once over'. He also gave me a letter from you...
RAF ones had a blue 'wash'

Maybe I'm getting the 'wrong end of the stick' but if you are just doing a cosmetic restore why bother about the headspace ? (is that different rifle?)
If you restore it to look like its...
Are you sure its a No3 bolt and not a No1 Mk3
A number 3 is a totally different beast
Where abouts in the world are you ?
It was manufactured by Savage (in the US) and is a No4 Mk1* (note the * denotes it had the simplified bolt release mechanism to ease manufacture)
Most Savage were Mk1* - only the very early ones...
No - they were definately listed in the (online) March catalogue and hence my ordering the 'paper' copy
Here is an extract from a detailed 'thesis' By Peter Laidler on Headspace.
You can find the full article in the Milsurps Library.
If you cannot get headspace, even using the very relaxed criteria...
Are you sure ?
Do you mean 0.639" ?
0.639" is not a 'large'size 3 and there are many, many number 2 bolt heads that are 'bigger' than 0.639"
Just received my paper copy of the catalogue and noticed a lot of changes, and many items ( I had 18 lots marked up that were of interest) have dissapeared.
The 7.62 No7 is no longer listed.
I...
Agreed - I've got a BSA No7 so dont need a single shot No7.
As a 7.62 there are better conversions about
So, as a bit of a mongrel, probably better left alone.
This is listed at a forthcoming (UK) auction -any thoughts as to value, uniqueness etc ?
Lot No. 145 A 7.62mm Bolt action target rifle. Serial No.0005. Built on a Long Branch No.7 .22 MK1 action....
Would that not be 'fraud' - if the intention is pass it off as being original when it was'nt. 'Humping' I believe is the term commonly used
No better than those 'repro' No32 scopes with a 1940's...
There must be at least one person still looking for a number 3 bolt head.
US$202.50 - GBP£132.65
I think its time to have a clear out of the of the bits & bobs drawer, I'm sure there are 3 or 4...
Is that a DP on the bolt head ?
