Agree with bearhunter re finish. Suppose with the ishapore screw it's probably ex indian. I wonder if the pads have been replaced maybe with modern repros - screws look flat, front pad looks quite...
You have to use the 'attachments' tool under the 'go advanced' reply - but the pics have to be fairly small so it does get a bit fiddly. I'm not sure photobucket offers all that many options to free...
Yep definitely a great price for a rare rifle seemingly the real deal - £170 for a cosher 4t can't be bad! Still with original butt at least, and as Roger suggests, it seems distinctly possible that...
Oddy enough BD - in my club the opposite seems to be happening - whereas even a few years ago most people weren't interested in milsurp shooting more and more people are joining, and those that do...
Yeah - helston gunsmiths.... £1,600 for a mark I scope which needs expensive refurbishment... haha - having a larf on that one!
The seller seems to have lots of British army stuff all buy it now. It's got all the hallmarks of a 2nd hand webbing kit seller who just got some of the slings on the latest pallet of stuff he's...
I dunno - I agree with all those comments before and there is something of the monstrosity about it - but for some reason, for me, it looks quite impressive!
Enjoyed seeing the pics so thanks for posting. I'll be interested to see the updates roger. Be a shame not to shoot it after all that effort in some ways. And I suppose by the time you finish...
Thanks for the replies chaps.
Richard WV - brilliant - thanks so much for taking the time to put that down. It's incredibly useful to me and, no doubt, to anyone else thinking of getting a martini...
Thanks matey - it was my first port of call - there's tons there, but in terms of information I really wanted ie a 'buyers guide' I could do with a bit of advice. I've seen a few up for sale...
Hi - regarding the Martini action .22s is there any kind of guidance experts here could give for a keen historic rifle shooter looking to get one?
Which are the most desirable types

Yeah - the last couple of mk1s on ebay have been around the £750 mark - and in reality they'll always fetch that or more.
Although the repros are relatively cheap these days their value only goes in...
Yes agree with above - it always seems such a solid combination, compared to some of the other mounts at the time. Hard to imagine it coming apart at an inopportune moment!
My hbm mk1 is blued - looks original to me.
Isn't there some suggestion that factories were bombed by the Germans leading to delays in production - which would I suppose explain why some in the 8,000s were produced later than higher numbered...

There were a couple of unnamed runs - which seem to be to have been the Kershaw/Kodak ones - the engravings on the pics above are identical.
I imagine a forthcoming blockbuster book...
Well the last L1A1 scope which was sold via auction online post-refurbishment cost £2k (sterling). And that's just about the only one I've seen sold on there.
Re original magazine dukie, well I'm...
Here's some more information from that site for the discerning film watcher who also has an unhealthy obsession with guns:
Sniper: Reloaded - Internet Movie Firearms Database - Guns in Movies, TV...
Ah but the seller's garage isn't filled with gold I imagine ;)
Hi Stewie - so far as I'm aware the enforcers only normally came with one numbered mag - any ones which have more are generally believed to have been marked up after they, er, passed into civilian...
Good lord - I wonder if the seller will see the cash for that one. Maybe someone's finger slipped when bidding. I reckon on balance I'd rather have a mk3 scope and bracket for around the same amount!
