Import Mark?
This photo is of the buttstocket socket on a recently-acquired Long Branch No.4 Mk1*. I'd like some help with two questions, please. First, I assume the two unreadable lines under the serial number are an import mark (to Virginia?) Any idea what the lines say? Second, what is it that appears to have been ground off above the serial number?
Sorry, but I don't know how to enlarge the picture. Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe the importer was the John Appleton company in Front Royal. Notable as a good source of BSA rimfire rifles over the last few years. I understand Mr. Appleton recently passed away.
No clue what was above the serial number. Maybe an old rack/inventory number?
