    H&R Sportsman 999 Sight Problem

I have a later model 999 (w/ vent rib barrel) and it shoots about 4" high on the rest at 25 yards with the front sight screwed up as far as it will go. Has any other 999 owner out there experienced a similar problem and is there any magic to correct this that I am not aware of, short of filing down the rear sight which I will not do. The pistol is in 'as new' condition. I can't believe this sight system was designed to shoot this high. I'm considering making a taller front sight if one is not available in the market. Thanks for any info. ChipS (Carbine Forum guy)

...with the front sight screwed up...
Everyone knows that you can't hit nothing with a screwed up sight.

I don't know what to tell you. I had a Stoeger Luger with similar issue but was windage, not elevation. The barrel on the 999 is made ala "Webley" so it can't be installed crooked but, it may have been bored at an upward angle. The only experience I have had with one was an old, old one when I was a kid and it was hair splitting accurate at 25 yards. (with fixed sights)

Higher front sight sounds like your only option. Come to think of it, I have a 1911 that I converted to .400 Crobon that I need to put a taller sight on too. Thanks for the reminder.

    H&R revolver

Mine is the single action only and was made a long time ago (maybe 1930's ?) anyway the top of the front sight to the bottom of the barrel is one inch. It is right on target at the local pistol range with standard velocity cartridges. I use to shoot a lot of 22 longs but they are very difficult to find now. Try some sub sonic or target cartridges, I have really neverAttachment 53995 had to adjust the front sight with the screw.
