    old unertl scope

Hi all newbie here... I have a dear friend who's husband died and he had quite a few old firearms that she wanted me to price for her.. Well there was also an older unertl scope that looks to me like the one on the snipers 03 in Saving private Ryan.. There are no markings except for the Unertl name.. It is very long and it is in Excellent cond. Does anyone have any idea what this scope could be worth?

    Any help would b appreciated..

Look especially for any markings on the scope. If it says "USMC" in any spot, it is worth a lot. However, many Unertl scopes were made for civilian use and don't have near the value.

Price/value involves the power of the scope as well.....If it's a much higher power scope, say 24 or higher, the price almost doubles...I sold a big 24 power for twice what i thought I'd get...20 power and under are all in a lower ballpark...$300 to $700....

But, as mentioned above, much more info needs to be put forth for us to even make an educated guess..

    cant wait t see it..

Check out this website. lots of pictures and descriptions should help you identify it. Also the owner may be interested in buying it if its for sale.

If its possible you may want to inquire of the widow about the rifle the scope was mounted on as well as the mounts. The scope will be more valuble if the mounts and other accessories are included.

If there is a rifle set up for the scope then the entire rig may be worth even more depending on a number of factors. There is always the possibility that the scope is a USMC sniper but from what you have told us so far it doesn't sound like it. Only 1700~ were delivered and many were 'used up' in combat.

    Regards,

    Jim

If the scope only has J.Unertl on one line and a serial # It is a pre war scope . The power is stamped on the locking nut in front of the eye piece
