    Japanese Rifle And parts

I have this Type 99 rifle and parts. Could anybody tell me anything about it. I would like to re-barrel it. The action is strangely interesting to me but I know very little about them. The rifle was rough with a cracked stock and rusted out barrel. I would like to do something with it But I'm not sure what yet. The screw that holds the tang (s) together is rusted fast. Original magazine and parts are still with the stock which is in pretty rough shape. (stock) There are a few extra small parts from another rifle mixed in with the bunch. Sported bolt, another safety knob trigger sported magazine follower and trigger parts ejector bolt stop and some sight parts. Thanks for any info.

Dare i suggest, if the numbers match, find a previously sportered type 99 with a good full length barrel put the good barrel on this one and rebarrel the other.

It will never be a beauty queen but if you look at the work of some of the other members here it could be made very presentable.

As far as info, it was made by toyo koygo. I'm sure someone will be along with more info.

The receiver and action look to be in pretty nice shape. The stock does not but might look better with some cleaning.

The stock is real rough because of a pretty severe crack in the wrist that's not real evident in the pictures. I might see what I can do with it for a summertime project but I don't have a barrel or know where to get a decent one unless I start something from scratch.

Lots of barrels on ebay and they are usually reasonable. Stocks on there also but they are not very reasonable.

So I decided to repair and go over the rough as a cobb stock and sourced a barrel because the more I looked at it I couldn't stand not to do anything with the parts. The inside of the stock was covered in a heavy grease that was filled with grit dirt and sand and the stock was beat from one end to the other like it was carried out in a pile. I test fired it with the last remaining 7.7 cartridge I had and it moved froward .008 and stayed nice and round at the head. I was surprised that there was two very well done patches on the left side of the fore-stock and the tang screw which I thought was rusted to the ferrule actually had some sort of white thread locking compound on it which looked like pipe dope. The original barrel was not chrome lined and some parts suffered badly from corrosion. I took a chance on the barrel and got it for $20 plus shipping, I never would have guessed the bore would be in a condition that has seen very little use. I need to get a band because the original one needed to have the screw milled out and I buggered it up hurrying.Attachment 85574
