    A Garand for my 73rd

A little over a month ago I received my HRA SG Special from CMPicon. There are several firsts:

    1. The first rifle I've owned in 45 years
    2. The first Garandicon I've fired in 50 years
    3. This HRA's first ever rounds down range

The rifle is in factory mint condition except for the new CMP stock set. Before I took it out for a shakedown shoot I finished the stock set with 6 coats of hand rubbed Tung Oil.

I took it to the range and put 12 rounds through her. She did fine but the shooter needs a little work on the elevation thingy. My first three shots were low right so I adjusted the elevation and windage. My next two were a little high left and I jerked one right. (I don't remember this rifle being this heavy and kicking this hard fifty years ago)

I readjusted the windage and lowered the elevation 4 clicks and finished 6 rounds, 2 less clicks and I would have eat out the 10 ring.

I can't wait to see what this beauty will do when I get it broken in and I get my act together.

    THANK YOU CMP!!!!!!!

Nice clean rifle. Looks like a brand new set of Boyd's wood on it too.

Those are CMPs, does CMPicon use Boyd? You can tell the difference of before and after finish if you compare the first case opening to the pic with the first target shoot.

If I'm not mistaken, CMP uses Boyd's stocks, but re-profiles (thinned down) by duPage. (sp?)
