    1903 Trigger Replacement

Need to improve the trigger in my shooter M1903, 2nd stage is very heavy and creeps. Wondering which of the triggers available might lighten and make the pull crisper with minimal modification to the stock or stee., Dayton Traister, Timney, Huber Concepts?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. all the after market triggers are poop, plain and simple, unless your building a hunting rifle, then even then safety is an issue, the only good adjustable trigger is a Canjar with safety..if you can find one it will set you back over 200.00 .
that being said, you can use good GI match grade parts, cocking rod, sear, and rebound spring, and it will be very nice, 3 pounds is as light as your really should go for safety.

Thanks Chuck. Are GI match trigger parts available for 1903? I do not see any generally for sale. Or does the trigger have to be worked on? I prefer not to get into stoning the metal surfaces if possible. I can do good work on timing and trigger for single action revolvers, but that is the only experience I have.

As Chuck has already stated the best way to go is with USGI parts. I did find a Canjar trigger on Fleabay for $100.00 and snapped it up. It works great and has about 3 lb let off but it is a single stage unit with no overtravel. I have had pretty good luck with simply exchanging trigger parts, cocking rods and sleeves. Sometimes just polishing wear areas can help a great deal and lastly working with the sear spring but care must be taken in that regard. I have a test mule 03A3 that has no collector interest anymore and I managed to get a really nice 3 lb trigger pull on that with absolutely no creep just be changing parts, polishing and working the sear spring. If you do any trigger work make sure and use a good pull gauge and obviously perform safety checks along the way.

not sure youd be able to buy a good sear, trigger and cocking rod that would work well, based on pictures on the net...i no longer offer trigger jobs do to the liablity , i may be able to match up some military polished parts that may work well in a 1903...
