    Counter-Bored M1 Barrel

You may recall that about 3 weeks ago I had my M1icon's barrel counter-bored to get rid of a "belling" condition at the muzzle. The c-b is 3/16" deep. After-the-fact I started wondering if I had compromised the reliability of the rifle. I finally got the rifle out to the range this weekend and to my total enjoyment it still functions perfectly ! ! ! However, the accuracy test will have to wait for another trip as the wind was blowing to beat the fires of Hades, not exactly conducive to good shooting.
Just thought y'all would like to know.
    Jon

    Thanks Jon,
I really wondered if it would bother the gas system. I guess I can breath new life into a few of my old barrels without worry.

How many rounds did you run thru the barrel? Thanks,,RIik B

I cannot remember how far you can counterbore before you start having problems with the gas system in the Garandicon. Someone posted that info a long time ago so the answer will probably be forthcoming soon.

    Rick B,
I loaded up 4 clips total. 2 each with 130 grain fmjhp and 2 each of 168 grain Hornady A-Max. 1 clip of each was shot slow-fire and the other of each was fired as fast as I could pull the trigger. No problems at all were encountered, not even with the hp's (much to my surprise).
