I recently purchased from the UK an NRA Micrometer Rear Sight 1946 for Enfield P14/P17 rifles. I goes on the P14 in place of the rear volley sight. I bid on it as second choice after losing an auction for a PH5B, and the seller tells me it is much rarer. I'm hoping someone can come up with more information on it. The seller didn't know the maker, though he offered this: "Hello Robert, Regret I do not know the maker, the sights were contracted & ordered from an engineering business in Guildford,Surrey by the NRA at Bisley, regards, Jay." I've also attached the pic from the auction, not a very good one, but I'll post better ones once it arrives. Looks to be a dandy little item, probably cost an arm and a leg to reproduce today, but I may check that out. Thought I'd post here, as many of you 1917 fans also have some knowledge of the P14.
I've been watching PH5Bs for some time now, but haven't wanted to spend what they are going for on ebay. I don't know what sight you bought. I know A.J. Parker also made a Twin Zero sight for the P14/M17, but what you have is not a Twin Zero. I'd like to know if you ever find out.
Gave me the lowdown on the sight. Wasn't very popular, and didn't last very long. Here's the pics he posted for me, was made to fit 3 different rifles. Looks like the poor man's way to get into the game. I know where there is one of the 3/53 AJ's, but the dealer in the UK won't export.
