Rear sight base for Target Sight

I found a couple of rear sight bases for Target type rear sights and have hope that someone can help identify them. They are blued steel and are marked W-670. Do they look familiar to anyone?

It is a base for attaching a sight to a M70 or M52 Winchester target rifle. Usually a Redfield Olympic. Very desireable item. Big Larry

Here is a pic of one installed. The 40X uses the same base but it is marked 40X and if installed on a Winchester and the screws tightened down, they will break off at the receiver as mine did. No gunsmith here so I sent it to another state to get fixed. It came from the CMPicon and the base was loose, so I tightened it down, and SNAP. Big Larry

    Big Larry,
Thanks for the quick ID on the bases. I have one of the USMC marked 40-X rifles , but no M70 or M52 so I plan on selling them to help raise money for another "Project". If I put them on the Shopper , what would be a fair price to ask?

My 40 X came from the CMPicon with the base and Redfield sights. I just need to sell if I can determine a reasonable price.
    Thanks,

    bases

Larry, the screws break off because they are not the same base. If the proper base was used they would not have broken. That is the reason they are marked for specific rifles. Check the catalog listing. The bases for the Rem-700 and model-70 are common which means a 40X should work on a M-70 as well, but not a 52.

The base was attached and I tightened the screw and it snapped. The part number is on the inside and I had no way of knowing as they appear to be the same on the outside. I don't have a clue as to what they are worth. All my CMPicon rifles had one attached. I just had a spare 40X that came off my M52 when I broke the screw. Big Larry

For the USMC 40 X the low end would be what the CMPicon sold them for which is $800. Depending on condition and correct numbered bolt, a USMC 40X could sell for much more. The price should be close to a Win 52C in like condition I would think.
