    New guy checking in

Greetings. New guy here. I've been around on several other gun forums for a long time (same user name), but had much more limited time in the past. Retired from the Army in 2014 after 33 plus years and am finally settled in back home. While there are a lot of things on my plate like caring for elderly parents and in-laws, I do thing I'll have a little more time to spend on myself. Thought I might spend a bit of it here.

I'm primarily a 1911 guy, but I do own a few other milsurps along with a few civilian arms. Gunsite graduate on handguns and carbines.

    New member says hello!

    Hello!

I'm a long time lover of milsurps, having grown up in a very rural midwest community in the 50s and 60s. As many of you know and experienced, everyone who hunted big game back then had some WWI or WWII relic in the closet. Few bought commercial firearms, and why would they when a 1903 cost $20 and a 30/40 was cheaper still? Despite having bought and traded for many commercial guns, I find myself at this stage of life only interested in milsurps ....well, that and I do have a Ruger 10/22 dressed up like an M1icon carbine, too. Fun and cheap!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and learning all I can from you...

    Spanish M1916 308W

Does anyone know where I can acquire an owners manual for this gun? Just purchased it from the gun show and started reading about it before I go shoot. It says 308W on the barrel and Samco in Miami Florida did the modification yet the internet has me afraid to pull the trigger with a 308W factory round.

Any advice or info will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome: With your Mosin experience you may be able to help. Installed new firing pin in my 91/30 and she will shoot factory rounds yet will not fire military surplus rounds. I have adjusted the firing pin using the factory tool and even went deeper with the firing pin yet refuses to fire military rounds? Any suggestions?

    Hello, Milsurp board.

Just joined this forum. Not sure how I missed it for so long. I was introduced to milsurps about 10 years ago when I saw an interesting old rifle in a pawn shop. Turned out to be a "bubba'd" Polish M44 and so began my education. I stayed Russianicon for a while and eventually scored an Ishapore 2A and a few Mausers. Most recently, I finally went semi with a Norinco SKS acquisition.

I am a less frequent poster, more of a Q&A guy with a sarcastic barb or two, but not so chatty. Lots of reading, mainly.

This looks like a nice neighborhood and I'm looking forward to integrating.

    Thanks.
    Jay

Most likely a weak firing pin spring. Surplus primers are harder than commercial ones. If the problem just began and you've had the rifle a while, it may just be wearing out. If it was like that since you got it, it's possible a previous owner may have altered the spring. Some like to cut a few coils off in an effort to get a lighter trigger pull or make it easier to work the action, especially the "safety"

More often than not, they screw up a functional situation. You can replace the spring for a few bucks from any number of parts sites with another original, or you can go with a modern production spring from someone like Wolf Springs. I've never had a spring issue, so I have no firsthand experience to share.

Here's one reputable gun parts dealer:
