    Beretta 308 M-1 Garand

Does anyone KNOW whether the operating for these is same or shorter than a standard 30'06 operating rod? Thanks.

I don't know offhand. Up till five months ago I was stationed in Italy and I knew an old Italianicon warrant officer who would know......but I don't have his email address.

If you are referring to the version that uses a shortened .30-'06 barrel then yes, I believe the operating rod is shorter. So is the stock and I believe the rear handguard as well.

I think Sarco had some of the short operating rods at one point.

That's good to know Garandy. I was under the impression that the Italianicon rifles were built on Winchester equipment and that all parts were virtually interchangable. I was also under the impression that many US parts were used in the initial assembly of the Italian Garands. Many of the Danishicon imports that I've seen are total mixmasters of US, Italian and VAR parts. It does make good sense that the shortened models and maybe even the BM59s might be different.

    308 garand

So if barrel is same length as 30'06, ie, if I set 308 garand next to 30'06 garand and they are same length, op rods should be same length? This is a Berreta 308 Garandicon, via denmark to Switzerlandicon (or Germanyicon)I think then to Canadaicon.

Yes, two rifles with a full length barrels should have the same length op-rods. Shorter barrel, shorter op-rod.

I have seen one short Italianicon op-rod and it was stamped 7.62 on the handle.

I don't know much about the Italian production of the M1icon so I have no idea if they made M1's with full length barrels in .308 or if they were all shortened .30-'06 barrels.

Why not ask on the CSPicon M1 forum here? Lots of great info there.

How do you figure this provenance? The standard story of the Danish rifles has them pitching up in Vancouver when Alan Lever bought a container (or more) of Danish war reserves. The intermediary steps are not well-recorded on the interweb.

Now, a converted Italianicon contracted Danish rifle would be marked FKF with a crown and a PB s/n, regardless of the barrel markings.

These are more recent imports(last 6months) less than 20 rifles total I believe. Imported to shop in Calgary. Ahh, the good ol days of Lever's Toys for big boys. wish I hadn't been a student back then, I would have bought 2 or 3 of alot of the wonders he brought in.

Ah ha! This was discussed on the Canadianicon Gun Nutz forum. The receivers are Danishicon and the barrels are new. I saved the Germanicon pricelist .pdf on 30 Mar 09.
