    If he has the sights raised like that on his Type 38, it's likely he wasn't sniping per se, just trying to "range in" his shots....

    I appreciate your enthusiasm... but it would be much more effective if it was informed. There are several good books on Japanese rifles such as Military Rifles of Japanicon by Fred Honeycutt and Japanese Rifles of WWII by Duncan O. McCollum. They are both under $40 each and will pay for themselves many times over when you buy for your collection.
