    Question .308 FN-49, 20 shot?

I saw a FN-49 at a gunshow today geared up with a 20 shot mag and in .308 caliber. It had a standard numbered rear sight like the 30/06 and the mag was detachable. I looked trough my FN book and couldn't find any reference to this set up. Is this another one of the Century projects? I was pretty cool but, I'm really not allowed to have twenty shot mags in my state and I don't have the spare $7,500.00 to pay the fine if I got caught. -SDH

    sdh1911,

Green is right in some ways and not in others it was a Argentinian rebuild of the FN49's because the then current government didn't trust the Navy with the new FAL's so they were given the FN49's and the Navy then had FN convert the rifles to more modern rifles with the magazines and chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO round. BUT the magazines are not compatible with the FAL magazines of ANY type.
