97 WW I trench gun questions??

Does anybody know if the early solid frame 97's had front sight holes in the barrel?? It has the correct bayonet adapter and heat shield but there is a front sight hole in the barrel where a bead should have been.
Also, it has the US stamped in the right spot on the right side of the receiver but no periods behind the U and the S and seems wide stamped. example U S not U.S.
    Thanks for any help

There should be no holes in the barrel because the bead was on the shroud. The stamping has been done after the put together job. It sounds like it has no collectors value at all, just a collection of spare parts.

It probably has "full" marked on the left side of the chamber. If marked "cyl" has the marking been polished off and added after? That's another common falsehood. It may have been a factory riot gun with the shroud added.

My M97 has the letter E above the serial number which starts as 689XXX

If you want access to all the pics for this M97, the password is "hotshot" at http://s671.photobucket.com/albums/vv77/Sig_Hot-Shot/
On the left side of the main page are the photo album names, just click on the weapon you want to view.
