I concur with Rick the Librarianicon. You do indeed appear to have a Britishicon Remington. Most of these rifles were re-imported during the late 1950's and early 1960's by Interarms in Virginia. Your rifle exhibits the usual British export proof marks that are typical of these rifles that were exported from Britain. In addition, your rifle exhibits a Weedon inspection stamp, thereby indicating that your rifle may have been repaired at a British arsenal.

Hope this helps. Thanks for sharing!

This is quite interesting. After taking a flash photo of the hand guard it is quite evident there was an effect to the finish...I’m now sure the paint was removed. This is not at all evident to the naked eye in normal light (modern digital photography is more amazing every day). Also attached is a photo of the R bolt markings. I can’t see any sign of repair or replacement. I'm now convinced this is of the same lend/lease bloodline, but of a batch that was Britishicon proofed...Serial # is actually 3,051,440. Barrel 1-42. These are of the most desired condition I've ever seen.

Your rifle did indeed once have a red band. In addition to the discolored wood where the red paint was removed, I can see traces of the red paint on the lower band.
