Enfield No 4 Mark I .303 sniper rifle - Value?

Scope is a No32 Mk 2? (I don't have Mr. Laidler's S/N chart on me, its at home!) Doesn't appear to be a 2/1 conversion at first glance. Might know some people who would be interested in this rifle....

Yes it is a No32 Mk2 - although the scope can (which I formerly called a box - oops!) says Mk1 - but has the correct rifle s/n on the outside - and laminated inside (piece of typewritten paper) is the rifle s/n & scope s/n.

Hokay! More pertinent questions- Underside of buttstock marked w/ S51 and top of stock near cocking piece marked w/ a number?

Is the top of the fore end underneath the front scope block marked? (Pull the scope assembly off to get a better view)

Also are the fore end and magazine body numbered?

As for the number under the scope - are you talking about it being inset in the wood on top of the barrel? ... Am I to take the wood off? As for the magazine - I didn't see any s/n on it - but I have another and am not sure which on came with the gun - and haven't looked for the other yet.

Value is a difficult thing to define - it depends upon how much a buyer is willing to pay - otherwise, it's simply a theoretical number.

Your rifle appears correct and has the advantage of having a scope can and scope numbered to the set. It's missing the chest which would have added to its value.

No.4 mark 1(T)'s in fair condition were sold last year by Century for around $750.

I haven't been following scope can prices but the last one I saw sold for $250

No.32 scopes with mount - well again e-bay gives you prices from $1500 and up depending on how desperate the buyers get.

So a mismatched fair condition rifle with scope, mount and can would seem to be worth at least $2500 in parts.

The condition of your rifle is a plus as are the correct matching numbers which should allow you to claim a premium from a collector. How much that premium is will depend on how badly the collector needs it for his empty slot

I'm up to my eyeballs in other stuff, but friends , well, .... always sniffing around for such coolness!

W/o an action screw swivel, its no surprise that the mag isn't numbered. The scope pad screw staking is a bit incongruous in this case. As is the fore end numbering, not wrong, just a mixture of early and late service indicators!
