The knife ban on E-bay came about by the BBC ordering flick knives and similar via E-bay. They interviewed the Director of E-bay who said he would stop knife sales via E bay UK. We did not see the UKBA procecute the BBC for smuggling.
The effect of all this is, #1 people in the UK can purchase from web sites in the USA and do . #2 The price of collectable knives and bayonets has increased in the UK because there is no competition.#3 At a time of recession one would think selling and buying of any thing should be encouraged!

Hi - Please help - If anyone can provide a clear answer for me on the listing of bayonets located in the UK on the USA e-bay site then I would be eternally grateful. The amount of time I spend messing around with adjusting the postage settings to get things listed is horrendous.
To list a bayonet I go to the USA ebay.com site, login as normal, go to sell an item, put in details, description, photos, postal options etc. The issue is that when I try to list the auction about 50% of the time I get a message saying that 'the item is prohibited from being exported and can only be delivered within the USA' (or words to that effect). This means that I have to go back and remove any international postal options to get the auction to list. The other 50% of the time I set the auction up with international postage options and it all lists perfectly with no problems.
For example, at the moment I have two bayonets listed: 271235314560 which listed all ok and has international selling options and will allow persons in the countries where I will post to to bid on. The second bayonet; 271235281503 no matter what I do will only allow me to list it with postage options inside the USA (i.e. no international postage); from this I get e-mails from people trying to bid in Europe or Australia but can't because when they try they get told that I do not post to that country!
I have tried numerous combinations of postal options, changed categories, changed words etc and there doesn't seem to be any clear rule to any of it.
If anyone can tell me what the specific magic auction setup combination is so that someone in the UK can list bayonets on e-bay so that they have international postal options and can therefore be bid on by someone in that country; then I would be eternally grateful.

I'm not tooooo sure of the response that you're going to get James, for a couple of reasons! There are certainly ways around the ludicrous way that auction site seems to operate but....... Several times in the recent past, we've seen newly joined members asking quite complicated questions such as yours is (and throwing glib, hopelessly wrong comments into the ring which niggle some long serving members I can tell you.....). The question is answered, maybe by many forumers all putting their heads together......... and guess what? Yep....., got it in one! The questioner is never heard from again. He's got what he wanted and legged it.
If I were you, Instead of diving in with a convoluted and complicated (well, it is to me.....) question, I'd have been inclined to get settled into the forum first, ask a few simple, interesting Q's, dish out a few answers, become known, establish your credentials...., you know the sort of thing........... and then get stuck into the big stuff. After all, you could be a dealer or a trader picking our brains before you've given us a chance to pick yours. Not saying that you are of course but it HAS happened and been commented on

Simple answer James, its trial and error, I had some issues with a bayonet last year that I listed (the same way as most from the UK) but the postage was way out and couldnt change it.
I think ebay are getting wise to the situation, but it all depends what you list it under, you need to have a look at any others listed from the UK and go from there.
You could always put them on the classifieds on here, or try Milweb.net here in the UK.

Try Milweb or Gunstar to sell bayonets. Another site I have purchased from is V bid me in Portugal. The chap who runs V bid use to be "Sword Seller" on E-bay. The idiots who spoilt E-bay Uk for the genuine collectors, were ordering flick knives, stun guns and shock batons. The crime is caused by the pound shop Stanley knife or a kitchen knife stolen from Mummies draw. Not by the genuine collector who spends hundreds of pounds on rare bayonets. I have spoken to many friends who are retired or serving Police Officers. NONE of these officers have seen a bayonet used in a crime. Another load of nonsense, whilst I am on my soap box, is the curved bladed sword import ban in the UK. You are just as dead if you are stabbed with a straight sword !
