D Tipped Slings-When ?

In the quest for knowledge and again this has probably been discussed to death i do apologise.....Carbine (and M3 Grease Gun ) "D" Tipped slings....when.....late WW2 or 100% Post war..whats the boards take on these ?

I was under the understanding that D tip slings came into use.....late in WWII.
Someone will chime in with better info.

D tips were in existence before WWII, but were not put on slings except in a rare case of repair. So many slings existed during the war that most of the time when a C tip came off, the sling was junked.

The earliest D tip contract I can identify is 1951.

I have a sling with both a c and a d tip on it. I consider it to be somethng of a rarity!

From the link, most of those slings are fakes. The photo showing Marines with D tips, it is possible the Navy produced a small amount, or altered some Reising slings.

I am working on a post war sling modification story of the Air Force changing standard slings by shortening them, for the M1A1 Folding Stock. Circa 1950's to early 1960's.

I have them in my possession but will not reveal anything until the research is done.

Bill, I assume the standard carbine sling was used on the M1A1 during the war? Until your comment about the Af mod above, I never thought about the short paratrouper stock.

Yes the standard sling was used for the M1A1 during WWII.
