    Swedish Mauser

    Hi there
I'm new here, thought I would introduce myself and ask a question.
It's been a long time since I owned a rifle, other than my .22. I used to have a few different ones when I was younger, then I discovered archery and eventually sold off all my guns. Now my son is hunting age and enjoys bowhunting but wants a rifle as well, I found a couple good used ones for him one of which I will get for him.
I have found that his interest in guns has reignited mine as well and find myself reminiscing about my old collection. My favorite one was a swedish mauser that I sporterized. Drilled and tapped, bent the bolt handle then had it cut off and had new one welded on, made a hinged floor plate, new stock etc.
I have kicked myself ever since I sold it, now I want to do another one, when I did my old one they were a dime a doz and easy to find. It seems like they are harder to find and cost a lot more than I remember.
    Now for the question part.
Does anyone know where to find these surplus swedes in Canadaicon? I found a few locally but they are in rough shape.

    Thanks for time
    Ron

yes, go to any of the gun broker . com types and just get a action, since you are going to customize it

this rifle started out as a GEWicon 98 1916 model 98 and was probably a WWi bring back, bought the action for 25.00 at a show

shilen barell, timney trigger, gentry 3 pos safety, custom stock, glass bed action, replaced all screws with allen sets
used weaver 3x9 from gun brokers. com, good mounts

blue job from a gunsmith all the rest i did, and oh yeah the bolt was replaced by same gunsmith

as you can see it shoots well, this rifle was and is a gift to grandson when ever he does something to warrant it, so far he is a typical (still love the kid, but worthless) teenager. maybe some day he will get slapped and realize he needs to work to get things

but back to rifle, cheap, no, took a lot of time, but it do shoot

That's a good looking gun, your grandson will be a lucky boy when he gets it.
I'll keep looking and check out the gun broker sites. It will be a project for my son as well, he's looking forward to doing this with me.

I bought a 94 Swede in 1967. I also bought a Bishop semi inletted stock, a Timney set trigger, A Redfield scope base and a sling. About 3 months of part time work at the gun shop where I worked part time after school. I had a 6.5X55MM carbine that will shoot a minute of deer all year long.

I've sold it twice and bought it back twice. Mild recoil and great ballistics. Couldn't ask for a better "big" gun for a young man.

I'm 57 now and other than a scope upgrade, that gun is as I built it and still going strong.

30 some odd years ago, i found a springfield model 1903A3 in a pawn shop, it had kind of been butchered, stock cut off a butt plate nailed on it (NAILED) but it had a lyman 48 target sight on it, the pawn shop wanted 100.00 for it, and i bought it

after removing the sight i got to looking at the steel, the stock was nothing but junk and it got scrapped..

but the steel really was in pretty good shape, and the rifleing also looked very good, I put a redfield base on it and a cheap stock and shot at X target at 100 yards, it shot with no effort at all a sub minute group with GI ball ammo...

took it home and started working with it, timney trigger, nice stock (actually a 'second' stock from one of the stock makers for 50.00) glass bedded it, bent bolt more (actually straightened it out and cut off and re did) new safety and gave it to my oldest son for a christmas present

It still has the original parkerized finish and it was a 1942 remington 03A3, I even used the original 03A3 sling swivels on the stock ( put a metal butt plate on it felt the kid needed to feel the 3006)

believe he has now harvested over forty deer with it... still shoots, not the prettiest gun in the world, but it stacks up with any commercial one on the marked

You never know what you'll find in a pawnshop. I found a vintage Bear cub recurve a few years ago in a pawnshop for $40, it's now hanging on my bow rack.
I really like those old rifles, they have character. The new stainless and synthetic stocks are nice but they don’t talk to you like the old ones do.

Do you have gunshows in Canadaicon? I have bought a lot of guns right after hunting season. I find them in the paper. A guy doesn't see a deer all season, so he gets a new gun and dumps the old one.
If you watch for bargains instead of for a particular gun, you may do a lot better.

lots of options with a mauser with some good steel, get one with a barrel buggered out and lots of barrels available and some pretty good options on stocks.

being careful could make a pretty decent rifle, and not spend a ton of money

i have seen seconds on stocks for under 30.00 US seen barrels for about 100.00 that and a good sight and thats you

something to pass on and on

i still have my grandfathers 1912 winchester model 12 and his perry rifles
