need a a gunsmith within 150 miles of raleigh nc

need to have a 3 position safety installed on a 1903A3 springfield, this gun is already a deer rifle, i converted it close to 30 years ago, it had already been drilled and tapped for lyman sights and for scope mounts, so it had already been de collectored..

rifle is my sons and i always wanted to put a 3 pos safety on it and have one now, i bought a La Pour and have it in my posession, since i have never done anything like this i would prefer not to bugger it up, the instructions make me hesitant to do this.. lots of mesurements and some drillin on existing bolt and that scares me....

looking in southern virgina or maybe eastern south carolina
    Like someone like Gus Fisher
    regards

Good luck on that gunsmith in NC, Ira. I haven't found one in 10 years - not a real one anyway.

I have installed several of those safeties. The only real problem is lining up that pin. I use a 0.5mm lead from a draftsman's pencil. Forget drilling, you have to grind or mill that slot. Grind a tight slot and round the entrance. A Dremel Tool works very well for this job. If it isn't already blued, rust blue it.

i went to some nitwit in new berne years ago and he installed a gentry 3 position safety on a mauser and he screwed up the striker and bolt so bad by over polishing it that when the rifle was cocked if you slapped the stock it went off. to repeat, when the rifle was cocked and if you hit the stock it went off

the gun doctor was and is a dangerous man

i had to get a new bolt and a new striker for the rifle
