    1898 krag handguard

    hi all,
I have a 1898 krag carbine but it needs a upper handguard. Does anyone here have one they can part with cheap? It is all I need to complete this krag.
    thanks

There are several types of sights that may be on the rifle and you need to know which you have in order to get the correct HG. S&S fireams has repro guards. The odds of finding an original are about 0.

you have to get the one for whatever sight you have. Search Kragicon handguard on ebay and you'll turn up an original or 2 that'll probably cost you around $150, depending on model and wood it's made of, and some reproductions. The one's from gunparts corp are poor quality compared to some others you'll find there, and I can't recommend those from S&S either.

    handguards

Are there any Mauser or other handguards that are comparable in diameter that can be "woodworked" into acceptable looking handguards?

    Handguard

no. I actually made a new handguard from a piece of walnut and used the spring barrel clips from a 1922 mauser handguard

Many, many years ago I used to make Kragicon rifle / carbine hand guards for the various rear sights from the rear hand guard of a U.S. M1917 Enfield
