    S.A. Garand stock questions

I have a S.A. garand ser. # 4014xx Barrel date 04 46. I believe refurbished at barrel date . The stock was refinished & cartoushes scrubed. Rebuilb mark SA over S .My question is there are numbers not matching on bottom of stock and a shallow drill spot, like from a spade bit on bottom of pistol grip . Any idea where they originate?

Numbers on the butt? Probably the rack number.

Well if the "numbers on stock" are serial numbers then it sure wasnt from here, my guess is from Denmarkicon or Greece. I have one of those stocks with the spade bit cuts on the grip cap as well but don't remember which group of CMPicon guns that it came from.

The circular cut in the pistol grip was made by the Danes. The intended to but never did put ID discs in the cut. Many, but not all, Danishicon return Garands have the ID disc cut.

I had to read this over again as you state they never put the id in the cut but state many came back with this disc in them. I hate to say it but it isn't a ID disc but I think it is a T.E. disc and their very very very rarely came back to this country as they were taken out by the danes for scrap. Rick Bicon
