What kind of ammo do you prefer?

    Hi to all,

I purchased an like new ERMA Carbine in .22 LR and tested some ammo for it like the RWS R 50, S&B Club, Remington Viper and Lapua Master. At 50 yards the Lapua was the best with an 5-shot diameter of 22mm. What are your experiences with different ammos and wich one do you prefer?
    TIA

    Regards

Just bought a Polish Wz-48 trainer in 22 long rifle last week. I've only been able to get to the range once since I bought it. Federal express ammunition gave me about a 3 inch group with ten rounds fired at 50 yards. I'll work with it some more when the weather lets me get to my club.
Rome was not built in a day, but they worked on it every single day.

    HI guys---

The best ammo for most of my .22s without getting into the super match stuff that costs so much has been CCI Green Tag competition ammo. It's about $13.00/ 100 and I use it mostly for squirrel hunting in my Anschutz, Russianicon TOZ and Mossberg 22s with great consistancy.

hi gunner: I hace a Sako, 22 cal, with the sako heavy barrel, that has beenbededed and trigger changed and scoped. Since I did not know where to go for ammo, I had an ammo supplier send me all of the different ammo he had available, which i SHOT THRU AND TESTED. i WOUND UP WITH THE rws 50 ammo as it really shot better than the others, including lapua, etc. I sitll have three large cases of this ammo in storage.

Duggaboy, i tested the RWS 50 with good succes in my Erma Carbine and i hope it works good out of my Anschütz too. How about the prices for the RWS? This is the most expensive ammo for the .22 but good.

A guy I know shoots a bit of competition and has found the Wolf "match" (about $40 brick, US) and "extra" ($60, brick) to shoot better in his rifles than most other brands of comparably priced ammo. Problem is, here in the states distributors rarely have it. If they have it there, try some.

    HTH,

Like the OP I test a whole range of stuff through my smallbores. Mostly I find that best quality Eley MAtch EPS gives me best groups. I think I once read somewhere that this round has an old fashioned design which suits older chamber designs but whether this is true or whether I'm simply talking rubbish to try to explain my results I can't say for sure.
