Value of M1A1 Standard vs. M1A1 NRA Match

I have an older M1A1 standard wood stock, Springfield with Springfield mount and 4-14 X 56 Mill Dot scope. In VG condition, no damage and very little use, maybe 200 rounds. Paid $1495.00 in 1994 for the rifle alone.

What would be fair to offer with it for a M1A1 NRA National Match?

I am in the mind to move into the better, more accurate gun. I also have a "shorty" the tanker model. Fiberglass stock, just 3" shorter. Maybe 200 round through it as well.

Nothing ever changed on either.



I understand the National Match is a much nicer and more accurate weapon.

Since these were all civilian-made, there is no collector cachet to an NM. Some guys built them well, some didn't. Don't pay a premium over the cost of the work.

An M1A is a battle rifle, a brass basher. even a standard will out shoot most people

If your M1A has USGI parts to begin with would probably be more cost effective to send it to a quality 'smith to have the NM work and barrel installed. If the takeoff barrel is USGI you could sell it to recoup some of the cost. However, as ballbags is saying, an M1A Standard can be a great shooter, and with proper setup and USGI or better components can often shoot 1 MOA or less - if the person squeezing the trigger does their part.

I would up-grade your rifle via a well known match rifle builder,sights, bedding and trigger job at the minimum.if you sell off your standard parts the up-grade may not cost too much extra, use good match bullets and it should outshoot all but the most serious HP shooter.
