Canadian Scope 1943 No. 42 Mk 1 R.E.L. not No. 32 Mk 1

Can anyone share some light on this No.42 Scope currently listed on Ebay.

I note that it has had both elevation and windage adjustments fitted. Is this a professional factory conversion or just something that "bubba" has fitted?

There has been random mention that some of these were experimentaly tried as a substitute while no 32s were coming, maybe this is one of those. I've seen those dials on some other brit artillary scope, maybe a 78 or ?

You're right.

A "lash-up" is the term I believe.

The scope is a standard 42 with a 78 turret section grafed to it. I cannot get a good look at how it is done, but the mathematics of the cross hairs do not work with the OG lens set up in the 42. A most interesting scope and the picture of the reticule is again most interesting as it is a 78 reticule. The #78 was used on the Carl Gustav anti tank launcher. Too bad I dumped all my #78 scopes or I would just pull one down and check the focal lengths and see if they can indeed be used downstream on the 42 scope. Anyone have a 78 they want to sell cheap as curious minds want to know. Plus, all I need is ONE MORE JOB !!!!! on the bench, as still trying to get some time to do the photo essay on the Israeli 32 done. Anyhow, if anyone has a #78 they want to part with I'm looking for one to try as I have a fair number of 42's and 53's around here.

I have a few more pics of the 78 turret section graft. Which the seller sent me this morning.

He's just machined the No42 tube to accept the No78 turret assembly. In that the focal point of the No78 grat is at the identical focal point as the old No32/42/53 scope. Crikey, what a lot of work for what is just a ....er....., well, a nothing now really!

Might be useful if you also change your rifle calibre to 84mm....
