No records exist of history by serial number, but from the serial and markings we can tell you where and when it was made, at best.

    Thumbs up

    Hi Hazmat ....

Here's a site with some good information to bookmark for the future.

Lee Enfield Rifle Markings (click here)

"No4 Mk1 FTR (F) 47" .... means your No.4 Mk 1 Lee Enfield rifle went back to the Fazakerley factory (F) for a Factory Thorough Recondition/Repair (FTR) in 1947 (47)

"BNP" ".303" "2.22" on barrel and under that is either "18.5 or 18+ or 184 TONS" .... means that your rifle was tested for safety by Birmingham Proof House showing caliber and chamber length. As required by British law, any firearm offered for commercial sale (regardless of military proofing) has to undergo a pressure test. Passed firearms were stamped, usually on the barrel and receiver.

"NP" was the Birmingham Nitro Proof between 1912 and 1954 and "BNP" is the Birmingham Nitro Proof after 1954

"Englandicon" is sometimes seen on Enfield Riflesicon and it's the British private export mark pre-1968

The B3959 serial number confuses me a bit. I'm not sure it's the original serial number, but if it is, a "3" as the second digit in this case normally indicates the original manufacturer as BSA (Shirley Plant).

    Hope this helps somewhat...

    Regards.
    Badger

Haz, if you take a clear pic showing every part you have for it, we can give you a list of what you need. Get it from Springfield Sporters.

Ok this is what I have so far
The barrel, receiver, bolt assembly, front and rear sights all in working order. I bought on ebay the complete stock, Trigger guard (no screws) and they through in the middle band with no screws or swivel. Not sure if the middle band is correct they said it was but maybe its just a little bent out of shape.

I found this on ebay (see attached picture and description below) but have not bid on it yet. It still has about 4 days left, so I have time and right now it's at $8.99 US.
Oh and I have a bayonet but having trouble getting it on Its very snug and I don't want to force it.

Very NICE Brass Buttplate rear sling swivel, and all four screws for both for Lee Enfield No 4 Mark 1. The buttplate is in REALLY nice condition, and will polish up rather nicely, is marked with an E in a Diamond proof mark. The other parts are in Very good condition, original finish. All parts are of WW2 vintage. Great for restoring that old Lee Enfield.
So that's it... I don't think I need much more so any input on what else I need would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Haz

PS Skippy you should have PM

That stamped sling swivel is wrong...you have an early wartime rifle, you should have the machined swivel. Don't bother with that auction.

You have the rear handguard ring, you need middle band(if the one you have is bent), screw and swivel, upper band and screw.
Kingscrew and rear trigger guard screws, bushing and lockwasher for kingscrew.
Stock bolt and washer if there isn't one already there.
Machined butt sling swivel complete, two screws for it, brass buttplate and screws.

Not much money for all this from Springfield Sporters.

A worthy project Hazmat. I can't tell conclusively from your pics, but is it the front or middle barrel band you're missing?

If you need 'em I've got a middle barrel band and an appropriate buttplate, just drop me a PM if you haven't found those parts yet.
