Is A Throat Gage Also Used to Check Muzzle Wear?

Or is there some other tool used to check muzzle wear.
I have a combination 06/308 TE gage and one that is 06 only.
Never heard of them being used to check muzzle wear.

There are two different gauges. There is a company that is making one gauge for both but I don't recall the name.

    Muzzle gauge

    Throat Erosion gauge

    Combination TE & MW gauge

Stone Axe Engineering made combination Throat erosion & Muzzle Wear gauges that were rifle-specific. The one shown is for a Garandicon; one for a 1903 was different. The gauges would check MW (rings go from 0-8) on any 30 cal rifle but MW only for the rifle they were designed for. Unfortunately, SAE no longer makes these.

Though it is true that Stone Axe Engineering has passed into oblivion, as far as I know Steven Matthews still makes his fine gauges, but it is much more of a hobby venture than it was a few years ago. Last price I recall for the M1 gauge was something like $52 shipped. Anyone interested can send an SASE to:

If still available he'll send back your supplied stamped envelope with pricing information, advise whether you want the 1903, M14icon, or M1 gauge (or whatever combination of the three).

I believe you mean "TE only for the rifle they were designed for".
