Lightbulb Canadian Sniper Scope rifle sniping telescope WW2 R.E.L (eBay)

An advisory of an eBay auction sent to us by a member....

Canadian Sniper Scope rifle sniping telescope WW2 R.E.L - eBay (item 190409999833 end time Jul-03-10 04:36:16 PDT)

If they only made 500, how can serial number be 527 ??

    eBay seller's description:

This extremely rare scope, serial No 527, is one of a very limited run. The books quote only 500 made!!! It was intended to be part of the Complete Equipment Schedule (CES) of the Enfield No 4T Sniping system and would have replaced the Scout Regiment Telescope.

Made at Research Enterprise Limited in Canada in 1944 it arrived too late for World War 2. Following the success of prototypes 500 or so of these superb equipments were manufactured to fill an order from the Canadian Army.

On offer today is only the telescope. The picture showing the scope on its correct stand is intended only to display the scope as it should be. The stand sadly belongs to a complete system of scope, scope case and stand which is no longer available for sale.

Telescope optics are in good condition. Construction is aluminum outer casing is green vinylite. The telescope is of single draw with an adjustable eyepiece and extending sun shade. Markings are:-

    TELESCOPE OBSERVING, SNIPER’S CMK1 CGB 32 M.A 25/50
    R.E.L. / CANADA. 1944 527-C (with a small broad arrow).

Further information on this piece of equipment can be found in a book about Canadian Sniping Equipment - Without Warning by Clive Law p.49. Also within Britishicon Sniper – British & Commonwealth Sniping & Equipments by Ian Skennertonicon p.189.

This item is relisted as I received buy it now offers on it which were over £200.00 including one from someone who does not trade on eBay and knows me.. Naturaly I did not wish to sell it at aucion for less than £200.00. My apology for any upset.
    Regards,
    Badger

Well used and missing the 'eye-cup' of course. No bidding war on that one.

SN is interesting given the reported 500 ordered for the Canadianicon Army. Suggests the SN range was continued on from the 25 or so(?) pre-production examples.

One of the last ones made presumably.

I wonder how many more of these the guy actually has!

Might be an idea to start a roster of known serials of really rare items such as these.

Really hate to buy Serial Number 153 and find that I have 3 of them!

In the case of the last one, it was relisted as it did not sell at the price expected the first time. Like one or two others that were listed following the all-time high price reported earlier in this thread.

My thanks for the heads up ! I got it pretty much unoposed(by the sniping scum) for a total including Fed Ex of US$640.

I seem to recall these things going for what could only be desribed as"Stupid Money" over the past few years.

Joe Salter, who won't knowingly be oversold; flogged one last year for some absolutely hellacious sum.Mind you HIS did have the neat folding stand and this one I just bought only has the case.I wonder if they left the REL plant in Leaside with matching numbered scope, can and stand ?
This one is Scope No 444-C with can No. 9-C.

Anyone out there have an extra stand ? REL Stand No 444-C would be just ducky..My thanks again to Brother Surpmil for the heads up too !!

What was your HIGH though ? $600 ?Mine was US$908.09 and that's a ways from the high bid of $563 showing at just before 16:00hrs PDT.In reality I was prepared to pay $308.09 more than your highest bid.

I always laugh at the psychology the fleabay dimwits attempt to promote where you are the"WINNER".Winner my fat a$$,You are the HIGH BIDDER nothing more, nothing less.Attempting to put a different spin on it is ridiculous.I always calculate what the object is worth to me and place a bid accordingly.I only bid ONCE and if e-pay notify me to send money I know that I was the high bidder. No notice,no lost sleep.

Now I start looking for the stand I guess.

In reality e-pay is the home of the greedy. The Brits being the worst offenders.Try to get one of them to quote you a fixed price sometime.I had one dork tell me that"I HAVE TO PUT IT ON E-Bay"."HAVE TO"? Mind you 3 weeks later he gets in touch and wants me to quote him on a Long Branch no2 bolt head and I had the great pleasure of telling him that "Oooh,I am worried that I might lose 5 cents so I HAVE to put it on Gun Broker" told him that he should remember that old adage about everything that goes around comes around and then told him that I wouldn't sell him one for 100 Quid on account of his being such a greedy ba$tard anyway.

I really dislike having to play their greedy little games.Had Surpmil NOT given that heads up I undoubtedly would never have known about it let alone bid.E-pays pulling that PAYPAL ONLY scam pretty much ended my buying anything via e-pay anyway.I contacted the vendor about A)His stating that he would only ship to the US although he is in Ontario CANADA and B) I told him that a VP of the RBC told me to stay away from PAYPAL and FACEBOOK.PayPal have pulled some really bad stunts on account of their having access to your bank account(the one your PAYPAL BS goes through and Facebook is the tool of the ID theft swine AND will get you more dick lengthening spam that you ever knew existed)So a US$ draft was deemed to be imminently acceptable IF I "won".I did so there you go.
Speaking of going,I only got up to call a client mucho time zones away.Did that ,couldn't sleep so I decided to see what was doing here.NOW I am going back to my bed.

    G'night all...

    Zzzz,

    JR
