    2 Questions.

How much is involved to convert No.4 wood to the L42 profile in respect of the rear handguard. if I just trim the front wher eth band goes currently and chisel out a new band indent in teh handguard and the fore-end, is that correct or were the handguards specially made longer to have the band at the same distance from the receiver.

Secondly can anyone recommend a good modern scope (whihc can handle .303 recoil) which looks like the NO.32 from a distance?

You could look at Kalinka 4x24
PO 4x24 S2 Illuminated Weapon Rifle Scope w/ 5 Setting Duplex Rangefinding Reticle - Standard - Rifle Scopes

Its 4x, close to the T 3.5, it has forward turrets and the front lens is smaller than the rear, so overall it has a slight 32 type profile. I had an earlier one on my savage T and liked it just fine. Mine also had a german three post reticle which was excellent. Maybe they're on epay these days or gunbroker.

Don't bother converting your fore-end or handguard. Modern new-made handguards (available freely via the usual dealers) are better than the original cut-down No8 handguards and then new made lengthened handguards. As for the fore-ends, you need a saw and a milling router. But once again, don't bother. Just get a modern conversion done by a pro and use the opportunity to follow all that you've learned on this forum and fit it properly.

As for telescopes.........., why bother with a look-a-like when the real things are on the internet auction sites. They may be expensive but they'll be even MORE expensive next week. Learn from the 'I bought it cheap yesterday maestro', John Sukey and repeat the words '......everything was cheap ..... yesterday'. In fact there is a what is described as 'new' Watson Mk2 on as we speak if anyone wants to look it up and give out the search number

The Weaver K2.5 looks good on a LE from a distance. It preforms even better. Minor price difference from the real thing.
