    M1 Garand ammo clips question.

    Hello,
I have inherited my father-in-laws M1icon and ammo stock. My question is: The markings in the circle of the back of the clip has various letter stamping. Can you read the markings like Ammo? He had some "China" clips mixed in with some of the "US" made stamped clips. These China clips don't have as well defined stamping and they tend to load with more difficulty. I think I want to pitch the China made clips. They are crap.

Some clips make a dull thump when dropped. Those should be discarded. There are some that allow the cartridges to lie side by side. Those go too. I find the old US clips are the best but there are many manufacturers including Germanyicon, Denmarkicon, Canadaicon, Greece and I even have a Turkishicon one I picked up on one of their old battle fields in Cyprus. All are OK. There IS a thread here that gives manufacturer marks and I'm sure one of these guys will send a link shortly.
    Regards, Jim

Dude67, Your instincts are correct, get rid of the Chinese M1 clips. A good friend of mine had his Garand freeze up in a rapid fire stage during a Garand Match at Camp Perry in 2009. Gus Fisher later confirmed that the clip he was using was Chinese, and was out of spec . HTH, Karl

Taiwan clips. Runs with Taiwan ammo quite well. Toss away when last round goes down range.

I have several cans of 30-06 in clips that came from CMPicon several years ago. The headstamps are AMA, Danishicon, and the clips are unmarked. They look like the example of a SA unmarked clip shown on the above mention Wolfies web site. Are the clips SA or Danish? I havent fired any of it lately, but I don't recall having any problems with the ammo or clips.

The question and answer were very interesting. Never thought to look at my clips or even realized that there were so many different suppliers.

Only checked one bandolier so far. Good old US made Borg Warner #6's.

Thanks Ben Hartley for that link. Terrific data.

I don't shoot my Garandicon near enought but I'm always on the lookout for reasonably priced 30-06 and the enbloc clips.
Visiting my dad at the farm two states over, I will generally visit some antique stores along the way.
Just last week while I was visiting him, I found a small stash of eleven American made enbloc's (Borg Warner's, Barry L. Miller Eng., Stamp Wade Electric Products) at an antique store for $7. Not a bad price for the American made stuff. Here's some pics:
