Remington P14 Markings
Hoping someone with more knowledge than myself can give some info on this rifle. This rifle was bought from an online auction listed as a P17. As far as I can tell this is a genuine Remington made P14 in .303 mfg. date in 1916. What are some publications I can get for research info?

Looks like a nice find. Does it have the front part of the volley sight? I think there is a book that covers both the p-14 and m-1917 i'm not sure of the title.

2nd to last picture shows front volley sight arm.

looks great nice grab , not sure what you are looking for , its a genuine remington P1914 rifle by the markings , bolt serial number would originaly matched the reciever and bbl , but its been switched so its not original , if it headspaces correctly its not a problem ,

A Forster No-Go or Field would be fine to check Headspace? Are there any military gauges available? Defined lands and grooves just starting to look dark. No pits. How would I check MW? Any ideas on the stock markings? Would surplus .303 ammo or something more modern be OK in this rifle? I also heard Enfield sight blades can be used to correct POA problems with these rifles.
I saw the bolt was not original. Why would a bolt get changed? Thanks a bunch.

When these were imported the bolts were shipped separate from the Rifles. The Importer made no effort to match them back to the correct rifle.
Nice rifle. To check the headspace you need a British
military field gauge. A sammi gauge will be .064 but the British is .074. So if you use the sammi spec the rifle will fail.
You can shoot any 303 ammo . Be it Mil Surp or commercial.

Try here. They are the correct spec. You only need the field gauge.

Alot of british import proof marks, military proof marks then commercial british proof marks. I'm surprised ther were no current import proof marks.
