    1911 remington

question for the experts, I have a Remington Rand 1911 ser. no. 1017943 1943 production. it has all the right markings but also has the crossed cannons on the rear of the slide, I cannot find another with that marking, all markings are clean and crisp and gun is in great condition, probably due to the great protection offered by the nickel plating, since I know they never made a nickel 1911 in 1943 I assume it has no value, I was just curious about the crossed cannon cartouche .

All original and correct RR pistols had the Crossed Cannon final inspection mark on the receiver. There were no original 1911 or 1911A1 pistols made for the military that were originally chromed or nickle finished from the factory. Maybe with one or two exceptions. One Colt 1911A1 pistol had nickle plating (No 1113489) and one had chrome plating (No 1113488)

And yes you are correct in that your pistol has little or no collectors value in it's present condition.

As far as the crossed cannon cartouche on the rear of the slide.... it appears that maybe someone at the Syracuse plant was either messing around, or just not paying attention.
