Any Uniform Experts? Boer War 1899-1902 Photo (Maybe?)

I just acquried this photo and am having a heck of a time identifying the uniform, regimate, ect. I was told by the person I got it from the man was a member of an "elephant regimate" given the elephant insignia on his collar badge but I have no clue. Does anyone know? I have attached real big photos of the picture in hopes some detail will show up. Any and all information will be appreciated.

I think it's the 76th which is of an Elephant to which a howda was later added. This would be pre Howda. The frame is from St Andrews by the sea in southern New Brunswick. That's as close to Deer Isle Maine as you can get without a bridge. I'm more interested in his medals. The one on the right looks like the India general service which would go with the collars and the other may be long service good conduct??? The uniform is patrol dress and by the look of the epaulette he's a Second Lt. Possibly commissioned from the ranks??

The Elephant collar badge (cloth/metal) indicates, The Duke of Wellingtons Regiment (west riding).

As BAR pointed out was the 76th reg.

St Andrews could be the one in Scotland (home of golf) ?

The medals the first I would guess was the 1879 South Africa medal ? and the second the India medal.

    My mistake BAR,

Just clocked the St Andrews, Anyway its pre Boer War as the regiment arrived Nova Scotia, 1888 and left 1891 so the pic I guess would be taken in the studio to be sent home etc.

If the medal (the obscured one) was a South African medal then he may of been in another battalion, or regiment at some point in his career.

Could be North Britainicon (the posh word for Scotland). We could do with some context; found in Canadaicon? elsewhere?
