I'm afraid the obvious answer is also the correct one- still attached to a Smith 1917 revolver. Haven't seen a good one "loose" in almost 30 years.

Plenty of bulged ones though! Something about these revolvers makes them prone to having jacketed bullets lodge in the bore. There's a split one around here somewhere that had five or six bullets in it before it ruptured.

If you find a source, I could use at least one.

The problem with those guns is they aren't getting any newer with time. I had one that had a problem indexing the cylinder. It worked slow but not snap shots. The only replacement parts you can get are equally old and worn. I sold it to a national Germanicon who wanted just a representative gun for his collection. Probably won't get shot at all. I could never have replaced the hand or spring.

Look on the auction sites. There was one on Gun Broker last week. The parts for a 1937 model will also fit the 1917.

1937s may also be found as Brazilianicon 45s. No US property marks, though.

The early 1937's had some parts that S&W had left over from the 1917 production. They are stamped with the acceptence Eagle over S2. I have an early one 17005X that has the stamp on the frame and on the bottom of the barrel along with the serial number.

They're the same frame, I think they would interchange. It wouldn't shoot to POA I think.
