The originals were for use in WW1 in the aircraft. Pre MGs. I thought they were 25 rds. This one's made by whom? You should give closer pics and find out how many it holds. If it's a good one it would be worth coin...

Over the years there have been any number of extended magazines for the 1911 type pistol. As late as 1941 U.S. Ordnance was experimenting with a 1911 style pistol with a shoulder stock, 11 inch barrel, and 20 round magazine.

You're right Jonny, I think the originals had the same witness holes as the 7 rounders. Guess it was wishful thinking.

    Johnny Peppers,
Any idea what it may have been used for?, a 20 round mag. sure looks like it would be in the way, and esp. with a 11 in barrel ? Thanks for your reply.

The idea of making something into something else must be a military mindset. The idea of making a Model 1911 into a type of carbine just had a way of coming up ever so often. In 1941 a request was given to Colt to devise such a carbine, and a working version was delivered to Ordnance. The magazine was so long and unwieldy that a special carrier was made into the stock to carry the magazine when not in use. The pistol was also select fire in that a normal pull on the trigger worked as a semiautomatic, while a harder pull on the trigger made it fire automatically. While the pistol carbine passed the function tests, it did not present the accuracy that was required, and died a quiet death.

    Here you go Boos -

You have the mag already so you just need this pistol to go with it!
