    Don't Mess with Texas Ad

Texans recently declared the 1991 TV commercial featuring the CAF b-17G Sentimental Journey as their favorite 'Don't Mess with Texas' ad of the past 25 years from 38 entries. (It was always my favorite TV ad of all time)

Don't Mess with Texas Celebrity Face-Off

The CAF monthly newsletter had a short note about the winning ad plus a couple of neat photos I'd never seen before and I thought a few here might enjoy these shots of the film crew at work --

If you ever get a chance to see the Arizona Wing's Sentimental Journey at her home base or out on tour please get out and see her.

She's one of the best looking B-17's I've ever seen -

    Thumbs up Cool Photos !!!

    Thanks Harlon ,

I bet that was one noisey place where the photogs were. The one time they (maybe you) were here, I visited the planes, but could not make it for the take-off. The CAF brought in a B17 and a Heinkel bomber to Jack Edwards airport in Gulf Shores, AL. ( 15 yrs. ago ? ) We were able to walk through them for viewing. My friend & neighbor told me it was VERY COOL watching and hearing the B-17 take-off.

Whatever happened to the "Memphis Belle" ?? I saw her sitting in front of a National Guard armory at the corner of Hollywood St. & Central Ave. ( in Memphis ) for YEARS when I was a kid. Later, they "donated" her to a High School tech class for further "restoration". I don't have a clue as to where she is now. The last "restoration" I saw was a re-paint and some dummy guns ( sticks ) pointed out the plastic (silver painted) plexiglass panels they put in the open holes of the fuselage. That was in the early 70's when she was still on the pedestal in front of the NG armory.

    Thanks again for the posting,

    Emri

Yes the "Belle" is at Mud Island.

Harlan, somewhere I have a VHS video of the Sentimental Journey being led down the runway by my WWII jeep at the right wing tip. That same day it led the B25 Mitchell Miss Behavin', a number of T6 Texan trainers, an F4U Corsair and a Zero. What a day that was!

I hope Mud Island is flood proof! I'd hate to see her buried in water & mud.

Being badly in need of restoration, the Belle has been given to the Air Force Museum at Wright Pat. where she's being lovingly restored. You can view a slide show HERE .
