I have seen K 98 rifles cut down by the Russians to launch Rifle Grenades. Could this have been an exploratory platform to do the same using obsolete equipment??

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Too small for vb grenades. I'm going to go with a rifle / mortar hybrid. It looks to be smaller ID than 2 fingers but bigger than one , so between 37mm and 25mm. The Germanicon rifle grenade is 30mm , and this looks about the same. The support has a turnbuckle made in , but no sights , levels , etc. , so one would suppose that it was a relatively short range weapon . There was prob'ly a hinge at the bottom and 1/2 to 1/4 turns on the turnbuckle would make for some fine adjustments. The use of a grenade launching cartridge would also support short range. A sand bag or board weighted with sandbags ( or a couple of kneeling GIs ) would make it stable . Light , fast , handy , able to unleash a flurry of small bombs into a trench line , MG nest , or behind a wall , building , or boulder . That's my take , anyway. Became a dead end with the development of the 60mm and 81mm mortars with thier greater range and payloads and the spigot rifle grenades with prob'ly the same abilities in a smaller package.

The rifles are Navy Line-Throwing rifles.

    Hope this helps.
