Real GI bring back!!

Type 99 Nagoya First series # 29267

Writen in ink on rifle "Saipan, June 25th 1944" Just discovered the GI'S name on both sides of hand guard. Sgt. Willard G Smith

Also possible tally marks on butt stock.

That is a very nice find. It feels good to own a piece of history. I'm still trying to find out some information about the Marine that brought this one home. All the numbers match and I wont't take this one apart because the screws are still staked and I don't ever plan on shooting it.

I like that! Great battle damage. Try NARA and you might just find his induction papers as a place to start from.

You might also write to NARA about the person. Looking for the discharge papers. Used to be only family could do that but thta may have changed. If you find something, please post it.

I have ben trying for a couple of years to figure out who this Marine was and some information about him, but having only his nickname, "Bud" it makes it tough.

If you know the guy is a Marine, the Marine Corp keeps very good records. Possibly, some Marine here can offer some suggestions on where to look.

There were some Japanese Rifles imported after 1985 from China. All that I saw were not in very good condition, most looked like they had been stored in oil drums filled with used motor oil.

I have read that about 1.2 million rifles were given to service men to bring home and another 1.2 dumped into the ocean. Like someone said above they were never imported

My first post here. I had a Jinsen T99 pass through my hands some years ago. It had the star marking on it. The owner of this rifle also said it was taken in Saipan and interestingly it had a battle damage on the top forestock just in front of the sling barrel band. Looked like a piece of shrapnel entered from one side, went 180 deg. over the barrel and exited the other side. The rifle shot OK.

Good point. This is however a battle field bring back (mum intact) as opposed to just a vet bring back
