    GI Web Sling Nomenclature

    Afternoon all,

Short story, I am an Appleseed instructor and I am trying to find the proper nomenclature for the parts of a GI web sling. To date I have found some of the names but I have doubts. I would like to know the correct names for the purpose of consistency.

I have what is commonly called the lock, should be called "Keeper". The adjuster should be called the "H Buckle". The clip should be called the "Hook".

Can anyone confirm or correct these names?

    Thank you.

Nope, I got 1907s, they are my favorite. I am talking about the GI Web sling.

    Jake...

There's a picture in the 1951 edition of FM 23-5, found at

    [[[ http://www.90thidpg.us/Reference/Man...3-5%201951.pdf ]]]

It's a *.pdf file, so you'll need Adobe Reader. Let the whole thing load, then scroll down to page 112 - 114 (page 117 - 119 in Adobe reader). It's shown in figures 54 and 55. (You can also use Adobe's "search" function if you'd rather do it that way; keyword "sling.")

The term "Buckle" is not what was being used within the industry making the slings. Within the industry it was called a "slide". It still has that name today.

Hey Bill, correct me if I'm wrong but I think he is asking what the military nomenclature is not the industry nomenclature. Coming from a Field Manual as buckle wouldn't that then be the military nomenclature?

If you want to print that page for a visual aid....

.... then download the PDF from my MediaFire shared eBooks folder. The copies from 90th IDPG and AHCO are all watermarked to prevent printing, those in my MediaFire folder have all restrictions and watermarks removed.

Enjoy whatever other goodies you may want from there.

That's it. I needed a later manual maybe? In any event that is exactly what I was looking for, keep all my instructors using the same names for the parts.

    Thank you.

Time also has something to do with names. By the late 1960's the Web Repair TM listed the buckle as the industry designation, "slide".

It depends upon which manual and what time period.
