    Enfield inspectors and inspection marks

I have tried searching the forum but can't find what I'm looking for, namely a list of Enfield inspection marks cross linked to dates.Does such a thing exist ?
Particularly looking to date E47 inspection stamp if possible ?

    Many thanks Kevin

Such records are non existant if they even existed at all. E47 might have been issued to a number of people over time. It is also possible that he would have been transferred to inspect other dimensions/functions in other locations in the plant.

A list does exist, however the time period I am not sure of. I do have some of it, so let me look and see what I can find.
It has been 20 years since I looked at it.

Thanks,I would have thought a number was allocated to a particular inspector so he could be held accountable ?
I pressume he would have kept this number all the time he was an inspector ?
Of course if the number was passed on straight away after retirement, promotion etc it would make tracing allot more difficult.

Just curious if anyone had compiled anything from records.

THere were also 'travelling' inspectors who would go between the factories in a certain area and batch inspect components. So you'd get a, say S4 over on-its-front or back E who'd be putting his mark on many parts from all over the south midlands.

This was certainly the case with the Ministry of Supply examiners who inspected Sten gun parts. One, based at Reading regularly travelled on a train from Bristol to Bath stopping off at factories along the way - Swindon, Theale, Hungerford right up to but not including London. Inspecting, examining, trouble shooting and stamping all the way

That's very good to know. I've always wondered about the significance of the inspection stamps with the "lazy E".

Lazy E? You'd think with all that stamping around, E would stand for Exercise.

    You'd certainly thinks so anyway...

"Lazy" = a cattle branding term over here for tipped over characters. Come to think of it, "drunken E" would probably work too.

I have found some of the inspector markings....It gives me the inspectors name and mark, but no date.....I'll see if I can find the rest.
47/E is listed to a TREVENA G. nothing else and no date.
