    ID norwegian krag

Hello all. I just picked up a bubbad Norwegianicon Kragicon with a 22” barrel and a 1905 date. All serial numbers (75836) except bolt (361) match.

From what I’ve read on the net, carbines had a 20.5” barrel, so it’s not a carbine. My first thought then was that this was a common M94 in which the barrel was cut down. However right under the front site appears to be what’s left of a bayonet mount. If this was originally a 29 or so inch barrel which had been shorted, then the bayonet mount would have been cut off, so I’m GUESSING the barrel is original length. Any ideas as to what I might have. (Sorry no camera, so I can’t post pictures).

I was able to borrow a camera.

Here's what I think is a gorund off bayonet mount.

And picture of the rest of it

Okay where are all the Kragicon shooters out there?
The 1894 Lang Krag has it's bayonet lug attached to a sleeve over the muzzle. I have a lone sleeve with bayonet lug in my Krag parts pile, I think is for this.
The 1895 Krag Mountain Carbine has no bayonet issued for this and no lug on rifle either was made. I do have one of these rifles.
The 1912 Krag Carbine has it's bayonet lug attached to the Nose that fits over forestock and handguard near muzzle. I have a 12 sporterized but do have a nose piece with lug, ready for the day I find/make a full length forestock and handguard.
Playing by memory there were other 3-4 other carbines made 1904,1906 boys etc made.
You have 1905 date 22 inch barrel so it could be modified 1894 or alonger barrel on a 95 action. many possibilities. perhaps a modern rebuild/rechambered even.

MarkDevCanada: In Brophy's "The Kragicon Rifle", page 138, Sigurd Halverson indicates Serial #75836 would fall in the range of numbers used in 1905 production of the Model 1894 Infantry Rifles made at Konsberg. No great mystery. Someone shortened your M1894 Rifle to 22 inches, machined a step at the new muzzle area, salvaged and modified the original front sight to make it a 'banded front-sight', and installed it on the shortened barrel.
