    Colt 1947 Super 38

Can anyone tell me what are the correct grips that would have been shipped on a 1947 Colt Super 38? Also were target sights a factory option? Clawson is a bit light on this info, Thanks

First production in 1947 started out with the GI Coltwood grips. Not sure when they changed to the plastic grip with rampant colt logo, but possibly late 1947. I am not aware of any target sight options in 1947.

Thanks JP. Clawson's says they started production in June 1947 at serial 40001 and ended 56770---16,770 units. I'm looking at one serial 4346X, so it's probably a August unit. It's possible some of the frame components are WWII left overs.

I'll try to round up mine in a day or two. Poor thing's been mouldering away since ammo prices went mad. It's not a real high condition piece, but it's unmessed with.

    Sorry for the delay.

If they came with the pistol, and there's no reason to think otherwise as far as I've discovered, the grips on this early Post-WWII production Colt are regular old GI type grips:

I am looking at a near NIB .38 Super in the 60,000 serial range, one documented owner, it has GI type Coltwood grips.
