    91 Argentine Question

I have a comercially sporterized 91. Manufactured Lowe Berlin.I Ordered headspace guages from PTG. They are no-go and a field guage. The stripped bolt will close on the no-go but not on the field guage, Is this normal for these rifles? Thank you Paul.

    Hi,

Normally there are three gauges, go, no-go and field. The purpose of the Field gauge is to check a rifle that has failed the no-go.

Since your Field gauge doesn't close, the rifle should be safe to shoot.

I heard that some importers only use the Field gauge when they check rifles.

    Take care,
    Jim K.

The No Go gage is the maximum chamber dimension for a gunsmith chambering a new rifle. Just because the bolt closes on the No Go gage doesn't necessarily indicate the rifle has a headspace problem, but if it closes on a Field gage, it does have a headspace problem.

Looks as though your headspace question got answered so I guess I will add this. The Argentineicon 7.65 in good condition in my opinion is a darn fine rifle and cartridge. I have hunted with mine off and on for 50 years and it has taken it's share of game and vermin. I reload for mine and hope you willl to.
