L42 Look hanguards and forend question.

I have a no.4 which has a warped forend by the muzzle (both rotationally and L to R) and as it has been drilled and tapped and someone put on a T cheekpeice was considering cutting the forend and making a 303 L42 look alike. So.. were the handguards for the L42 made form regular handguards with teh band area chiselled out further back, or were the handguards made longer than the standard rear handguard, so that the band was in the same place on the forend as teh middle band oin the No.4 T it was converted from?

L42 top guards is manufactured 1/2" longer and the band cut lines up with the issued No4 forend. Occassionally see an orginal on eBay. EFD in the UKicon make a reproduction "beech" top guard however the barrel channel is sized for the heavy profile on the L42. I've clones done by modifying the No4 handguard that way you don't have the oversized barrel channel.

So effectively if I'm doing a rough L42 look alike I need to either get an L42 lengthe handguard OR rout out a new band channel on teh exitsing forene and handguard, which, as the the article linked in now easy process. dammit!

If you do, TBone, can I respectfully suggest that you PLEASE use a smaller diameter radial cutter so that there's loads of wood left at the front top edges. Same applies to anyone else milling out a fore-end

That's a deal TBone. My stuff is in storage right now so this doesn't come out until we move into a house out of the shoebox apartment. That's why I have time to conptemplate these projects pm me and we'll figure out a suitable arrangement.
